Youngsters Watson and Hallard sign first senior contracts
Defender Henry Watson and midfielder Reece Hallard are the latest players to be tied down by manager Gary Elphick.
The pair, both 18-years-old have signed their first senior deals after impressing for both the under-18’s and the first team last season.
Watson played 13 times during the last campaign following his debut in the FA Cup replay win at Carshalton Athletic. An injury-plagued second half of the season denied the promising defender the chance to a cement a more regular place in the team.
Central midfielder Hallard made 11 appearances for the first team, making his debut as a substitute in the Sussex Senior Cup victory over Three Bridges. It was in the same competition that Hallard would get his first and only senior goal, as he grabbed the second in a 2-0 win over Arundel. He was also a key figure for the under-18s throughout the season as well as a prominent member of the Sussex County representative squad putting in performances that earned him a trial with League Two Barnet midway through the season.
Elphick said: “We’re looking to tie down our promising players not only to protect the club as I’m sure teams higher up will be looking but also we think they’ll become integral members of the first team next season”. “Henry and Reece as well as Matt Boiling who’s already committed, fall into that bracket having played numerous times already last season and impressed.”
