Following last month’s statement regarding the pitch at Woodside Road failing the required FIFA certificates the club can now provide an update regarding upcoming home fixtures.
As previously reported provisional measures were agreed to hold home fixtures at Bognor Regis Town’s Nyewood Lane ground from September should it be necessary and it wasn’t until yesterday that it was confirmed that the club would have to take up this option for at least our fixture with Margate on Saturday 9th September.
Managing Director, Calvin Buckland explains the situation: “I fully appreciate the fans frustration at the perceived lack of information from the club regarding the venue for upcoming home fixtures, however it isn’t a case of keeping information from anyone, it is purely down to a lack of anything concrete from those now in control of the situation”.
Buckland continued: “During all of this the best case scenario for the club has always been for temporary work to be carried out on the pitch allowing us to return to Woodside Road for the remainder of the season. This still may be the case however yesterday we received confirmation that it wouldn’t happen in time for our fixture with Margate”. “We should receive further clarification next week and be able to provide an update for future home fixtures then”.
The suggested temporary action, if approved should only take 4/5 days meaning that it may be possible to carry it out before the next home match after 9th September.
Currently this is the following week (16/9) when we’re due to host Staines Town, however that date is also scheduled for FA Cup second round qualifying ties and dependent on the results of this weekend’s matches and the subsequent draw on Monday afternoon.
In light of the confirmation that at least one home fixture will take place in Bognor the club has worked along side WFCSA to release funds to provide free coach travel for supporters from Worthing to Bognor – further details on that will be announced today.
