Worthing Football Club make the long journey to Suffolk on Saturday hoping to replicate their first half performance against Billericay Town when they take on Leiston in the Bostik League Premier Division.

Adam Hinshelwood’s men held the title favourites to a goal-less first half on Tuesday evening before second half braces for Adam Cunnington and Sam Deering gave the score-line an emphatic look to hand the Mackerel Men a second defeat in three games.

This will be the fourth league meeting between the two sides who shared a 1-1 draw at Woodside Road back in November. Despite a good home record, Leiston’s recent form has been patchy and Hinshelwood knows his side are capable to exploiting that fact.

‘We’re in the middle of a tough run of fixtures and we know we must try and put a good run together to move away from the bottom. They play good football, just as we do so we should be in for a good game, but one that we need to kick start things and get that run going.’

‘It’s very tight at the bottom, not many points separating about 5 or 6 teams, but it’s also about the 3 or 4 teams just above us, anyone can beat anyone in this division and that means any team can be dragged into the mix down there, it’s going to be a long few months.’

‘So long as we keep taking care of ourselves and making sure we play our football, we’ll get the right results to lift us up the table and stay in the Premier Division. That was the sole target asked of me when I arrived back at Woodside Road and I determined that we will achieve it.’

Hinshelwood will check on the fitness of Alex Parsons after the midfielder suffered a gash to the head during Tuesday’s defeat, fellow midfielder Kieron Pamment returns to the squad after missing the midweek game through work commitments . Striker Reece Meekums is expected to get more minutes under his belt having not played many games during 2018 so far. Hinshelwood is also looking at a loan spell for striker Ben Pope with a view to him getting some regular football and coming back to Woodside Road match fit.

The match at Victory Road kicks off at 3pm. Admission prices are £10 adults, £7 concessions, £5 students (with ID card) and Under 16’s FREE.
