Match Preview: Staines Town vs Worthing
Worthing Football Club head to Staines Town on Tuesday evening with great confidence after Saturday’s superb win over Bostik League Premier Division leaders Billericay Town.
Two well taken goals from top scorer Kieron Pamment, including a measured chip over the keeper, gave the Mackerel Men three precious points to move them into 18th place and ten points clear of the relegation zone.
Both sides have been in impressive form over the last ten games, but the hosts will be wary of a Worthing side who have shown over the past two months they don’t fear playing the play-off chasing teams. Tuesday night sees the start of three tough away games for the Mackerel Men and manager Adam Hinshelwood knows his side must maintain their standards in order to take home the points.
‘We had an excellent result on Saturday, but that’s gone now, it’s in the history books. We certainly won’t be resting on our laurels, we’ve set ourselves a level over the past few weeks and we have to keep to that in order to keep on picking up points and climbing the table.’
‘Staines will be a tough test, as it was at the weekend, they’re a big side full of quality and we know set pieces are going to be a threat for them, we must be ready. There’s good strike power in their ranks, I’ve watched them a couple of times and been impressed with their wide left player and central midfielders, but if we perform like I know we can, we’ll come away with something.’
‘We can’t afford to let Saturday’s performance go to waste, teams know they will get a game from us and there’s been a shift in the way teams set up against us since I’ve been back. Teams respect us now and don’t think playing Worthing is an easy game, we need to continue to make it hard for them to play.’
Wing-back Alex Parsons will miss out due to work commitments, whilst long term injury duo Rhyle Ovenden and Ross Edwards are also missing from the squad. Midfielders Harvey Sparks and Kieron Pamment will both be hoping for recalls to the starting line up, whilst defender Joel Colbran is available despite his sending off at the weekend.
The match at Wheatsheaf Park kicks off at 7.45pm. Admission prices are £10 Adults and £5 Concessions.
