Hinshelwood: Frustrated, but a good point against a good side
Manager Adam Hinshelwood was left feeling frustrated after his side took the lead three times but had to settle for a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Staines Town in the Bostik League Premier Division on Tuesday evening.
The hosts had to come from behind on each occasion as goals from Kieron Pamment, Reece Meekums and Zack Newton had the Mackerel Men in front, but Hinshelwood conceded it was a good point against a play-off chasing side.
‘Yes it was frustrating for me, to score three goals away from home and not hold onto that is hard to take. We had chances to win it outright, Meeki had a good chance at 3-3 to win it but not to be. It was summed up to me afterwards, definitely a game for fans and not the managers!’
‘They’re a very good side though, we knew we had to be at our best, their front three are possibly the best we’ve played this year, great home form too, it’s as good a point as it is a couple dropped. Defensively, we weren’t as tight as we have been, something we can work on before the weekend game.’
Hinshelwood felt injuries to a couple of his players disrupted their flow during the first half, ‘firstly losing Joel Colbran wasn’t too bad bringing on Darren Budd as his replacement, but when we lost Buddy we lacked another defensive midfielder or centre half to replace him, so the system had to change and while we looked fluid going forward we were too open at the back.’
‘We were much better with the ball than we were on Saturday, maybe a bit too brave at times and not as good possession wise as we like to be from the back, but we played some good stuff, it was very much an end to end game throughout.’
‘We freshened things up a bit making a few changes, obviously they didn’t play at the weekend and I felt we expanded a lot of energy on Saturday. It gave chances and opportunities to those who haven’t played much recently, gives me some options too. The whole squad have been excellent in training and I know they’re all eager to play a part for us.’
