Hinshelwood completes deadline swoop for Barker
Worthing Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of former Havant & Waterlooville forward George Barker.
With the deadline for new registrations the end of the month manager Adam Hinshelwood has acted by bringing in Barker to give extra fire power in the final six games of the season.
The 26-year-old was a promising youngster at Brighton & Hove Albion and signed his first professional contract in 2010, eventually making his first team debut in March 2013, however he forced his way into the first team on a regular basis and eventually left to join Swindon Town. A loan spell at Tranmere Rovers followed during his time at the County Ground before Barker eventually signed for Gosport Borough.
The striker’s last club was Havant & Waterlooville who he helped to the Isthmian League Premier Division title last season, scoring in the both league fixtures against the Mackerel Men.
He made a handful of appearances in the National League for the Hawks this season before they announced he’d left the club by mutual consent in January this year.
The signing of Barker clearly comes with Hinshelwood having one eye on next season although the front man could still have an important role to play remaining games of this term starting at play-off chasing Margate tomorrow where he could make his debut.
