Match Preview: Worthing vs Brightlingsea Regent

The final match of Worthing’s eventful Bostik League Premier Division season takes place this weekend as Brightlingsea Regent are the visitors to the Bibby Financial Services Stadium.

The visitors come into the game on the back of three straight defeats, although safety and a second season in the Premier Division was assured a few weeks ago. The Mackerel Men on the other hand have suffered just one defeat in their last six games and are enjoying a 10 match unbeaten run at home which included a win over champions Billericay Town. Manager Adam Hinshelwood is keen to see his side extend that record into next season with a win and a performance that will see the season off in style.

‘It was an odd performance at their place, we played some good stuff for 70 minutes, then had Alfie sent off and conceded two more goals, the final 20 minutes I hope is not repeated. I think that score-line flattered them to be honest, and like always we want to win this game and show how far this side has come.’

‘Hopefully the weather will improve and we’ll get another good sized crowd, it’s important we give them a performance which will encourage them to get behind us as we know they will do. If we can finish on a high, it bodes well going into next season.’

‘Training’s been good this week, lots of bodies involved and we kept it competitive, splitting them into three teams, they’re ready for Saturday to get those three points and hopefully finish as high up the table as we can.’

‘Our four youngsters out at Loxwood, Ruben Schneider, Matt Boiling, Reece Halland and Hayden Skerry have done very well and given them good experience for next season and I will be catching up with their manager next week for a progress report.’

Hinshelwood has a clean bill of health for the game, the only absentee is the suspended Joe Clarke, while Ross Edwards should feature at some stage.

The match at the Bibby Financial Services Stadium kicks off at 3pm. Admission prices for the game are ‘pay what you want’.
