Despite going 2-0 down at The Camping World Community stadium, The Mackerels fought back in the second half to turn the tie on its head, and manager Adam Hinshelwood says the squad is in the highest of spirits going into this afternoon’s game.
“We’re all in a good mood at the moment, working hard, and it’s especially good at this stage to be relatively injury free – we have Marvin (Armstrong) back now and Lloyd (Dawes) is coming along well with his calf.”
Opponents Merstham find themselves lingering a point above the relegation zone having most recently lost 3-2 at home to Haringey Borough, with a squad containing former Worthing men Jalen Jones, Shola Ayoola and Omar Folkes.
But Hinsh insists his side must not take the Moatsiders lightly as they look to top the table.
“We know as well as anyone that this league is incredibly tight and we go into every game knowing it’s not going to be easy, and make sure we reach our second half performance from Tuesday – rather than the first.”
Worthing came out on top when the sides met in Surrey back in October winning by three goals to one, thanks to goals from Ollie Pearce, Jesse Starkey and Lloyd Dawes, with former red Folkes bagging Merstham’s only goal.
