The Worthing FC management committee is in support of the #LetFansIn campaign, and we encourage the government and FA to reconsider their decision to close all Step 1-7 grounds to spectators.
The club is confident that we can safely accomodate the return of fans at The Crucial Environmental Stadium, while remaining in accordance with government guidelines for all businesses regarding social distancing and COVID safety.
Football at all levels cannot survive without fans, and this is particularly true for Non-League clubs such as ourselves. The lion’s share of a Non-League club’s income comes from ticket and matchday sales; playing behind closed doors is not a viable long-term option.
The club would like to see fans back through our gates as soon as possible, and we are sure that many other clubs and indeed supporters share this view.
However, we must caveat this with our strong commitment to comply with the government and FA regulations while they stand. While the current guidelines remain in place, no supporters or non-essential staff may enter the ground on a matchday. We will comply with this advice until such a time as it is changed, and we are fully committed to the health and safety of our supporters, players, staff, and the safety of our town as a whole.
