The Reds go in to the fixture having had the best possible weekend, brushing aside promotion-chasing rivals Enfield Town 3-0 to put them eight points clear with a game-in-hand at the top off the table:

Jasper Pattenden headed Worthing 1-0 up inside the first ten minutes, before a second half brace from Crawley Town loanee Davide Rodari helped seal all three points at the Crucial Environmental Stadium.

Meanwhile, second-placed Bishop’s Stortford were held to a 0-0 draw away to Margate which cut them an extra two points adrift of the Reds having played a game more.

Pitching In Isthmian League Three Bridges come into the fixture on the back of a 3-1 victory over Whitstable Town, which included a goal from former Worthing man Curtis Gayler.

Road so far

Worthing entered the competition in the second round a progressed to the third after a 6-2 home victory over Southern Combination First Division side Seaford Town back in November.

They then defeated Lewes by three goals to nil at home in December, before recording a second win in a month against Bognor Regis Town, winning 2-0 at Nyewood Lane.

Meanwhile, Three Bridges also entered the competition in the second round, and Billingshurst, Little Common and Horsham YMCA 5-3, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively to set the tie up at Culver Road.

Recent meetings

The two sides most recently met in a pre-season friendly back in July, with Worthing running out comfortable 6-1 winners curtesy of goals from, Aarran Racine, Jesse Starkey and braces from Pattenden and Ollie Pearce.

The two sides also met in second round of last season’s short-lived competition in the second round:

Worthing slumped to an early exit in the incompleted Sussex Senior Cup last season with a 2-1 loss to the Bridges the final competitive fixture they would play in the short-lived 2020-21 campaign expunged due to the pandemic.
