The Reds go into their first league test having most recently brushed aside EFL League One Wycombe Wanderers XI on Tuesday evening:

Goals from Mo Jammeh, Lewis White, Nodirbek Bobomurodov and a brace from Ollie Pearce helped the Reds to a 5-1 victory on former winger Jasper Pattenden’s return to Woodside Road, who signed for the Chairboys back in July.

Meanwhile, visitors Dover’s pre-season campaign came to and end with a defeat against Folkestone Invicta by a goal to nil.

The Whites finished at the foot of the National League Premier last campaign, return to the south after an eight-year stay in the fifth tier of English football.

Recent meetings

The two sides last crossed paths in the pyramid back in the Isthmian League Division One South season of 2007/08:

The teams first met in Kent in December of 2007, with Dover comfortably winning 3-0.

Worthing then avenged their defeat at Woodside Road three months later, winning by a goal to nil.

The season ended in success for the Whites, finishing champions of the South Division and gaining promotion to the Premier, while the Rebels occupied the final playoff place in fifth at the end of the season:

It wasn’t meant to be for Worthing, however, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Tooting & Mitcham United in the semi-final of the playoffs to remain in the league for the following campaign.
