Last week we heard of the very sad news that Morty Hollis, our Life President and former club Chairman had passed peacefully, his family by his side.

Morty leaves his daughters Claire and Deborah, his son-in-laws Robin and Alistair and his three grandchildren, Alex, Magnus and Frankie.

Words can’t describe the love Morty had for Worthing Football Club; dedicating nearly 80 years of his life to the cause. Now that does take some doing and there will be many, many people reading these notes who will have either met or heard of Morty at some point in their life.

Claire and Debs have been in touch this week to ask me to thank everybody for their kind messages both on social media and from the wider footballing community.

They have been overwhelmed by the support and affection shown for their Dad and want to let everyone know they are really appreciated.

On a personal level, Morty was a friend to my dad, Roy Hunter, who along with a band of close-knit volunteers, spent many years and had so many memories together helping to keep this football club running.

Morty’s dedication will be very difficult to beat, ever, and I want to say sincerely, that Morty will always hold a special place in Worthing Football Club’s history.

May you rest in peace Morty.
