After agonisingly missing out on promotion back in May, the Rebels now have a fresh wave of excitement entering the 2024/25 season under new manager Chris Agutter.

The new man in charge has made 10 new recruits over the summer as a refreshed Worthing squad enter their third season in the National League South. Importantly, Agutter has kept a large core of last season’s squad together, including the likes of Joel Colbran, Kane Wills and Danny Cashman among others as the Rebels look to go one better this season.

The season opener at Weston kicks off a run of six-straight away matches to start the season as construction work continues on a new North Stand at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.

Team News

Other than Cameron Tutt, who fractured his foot during pre-season, the rest of the squad are all fully fit and available for selection at Weston-super-Mare.

View from the Camp – Chris Agutter

“We’re looking forward to it. It’s nice to finally be playing for three points. It’s always nice to have the pre-season period to develop the team and get some good work into the lads but ultimately, you do it for three points.

“They are a really good side and they’ve got a really good variety to the way they play, they’re not just one-dimensional by any stretch.

We know it’s going to be a difficult game and we go into it respectful of the opposition, but equally, we go into it trying to put three points on the board”.

The Opposition

Managed by Scott Bartlett, Weston had a good first season in the National League South, finishing 13th following their promotion to the division in the season prior.

Bartlett, like Agutter, has made 10 new signings this summer as he looks to strengthen his side going into another campaign at the sixth tier.

The Seagulls have been handed a challenging start to the new season. In the month of August, they take on teams who finished no lower than the play-offs in their respective divisions last season.

Previous Meetings

The last encounter between the sides was on the final day of the regular season back in April when Worthing ran out 4-2 winners at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium thanks to goals from Brad Dolaghan, Jack Spong, Ollie Pearce and Joel Colbran.

Earlier that season, Weston were comfortable winners at The Optima Stadium, winning 4-0.
