Worthing take a break from league action this week as they focus on the Emirates FA Cup where they welcome Havant & Waterlooville who were relegated from the National League South last season.
Chris Agutter’s side have picked up 12 points from their first seven matches this season, having played their first six away. Last week saw the Rebels play out a goalless draw with Hornchurch on their return to the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.
Last year in the Emirates FA Cup, Worthing made it to the First Round of the competition for the first time since 1999. They defeated Eastbourne Borough, Whitehawk and Bath City in their cup run, before falling short in the First Round against Alfreton Town.
Team News
Agutter confirmed injury blows for Sam Beard and Kane Wills picked up in training this week, with the pair out of contention for selection this weekend.
They join Joel Colbran and Cameron Tutt on the injury list. Agutter commented on Joel’s recovery, saying “I’d be surprised if it’s not at least another couple of weeks”.
Manager’s Views
“I think it’s a good opportunity to try and get the club to a place where maybe they’ve not been before. That challenge is exciting.
“We acknowledge that Havant are a very good side and we’re going to have to be at our best to beat them. They’re a step-three club, but they’re not really. Their manager is certainly not a step-three manager in Shaun North – he’s very good.
“They’ll be very hard to be. I’d imagine it will be very similar to what the majority of teams have done against us this year. They’ll almost be at their most dangerous when we’ve got the football”.
The Opposition
The Hawks have made an unbeaten start in the Southern League Premier South after six matches. Despite their unbeaten start however, Shaun North’s side have won just one out of their six league matches.
They have played previously in the Emirates FA Cup this season, beating Wallingford & Crowmarsh 3-0 at home in the First Qualifying Round.
