We played the original Maidstone United club mostly in the Corinthian League, meeting each other for eight seasons from 1950. The first meeting, on 6th January 1951, ending 7-3 in our favour at Woodside Road, and we won the last encounter in that league, also at home, on 2nd March 1957 (1-0). The away match that last season, at London Road on 5th January, was the first occasion that Worthing had played under floodlights.

There was one meeting in the Corinthian League Memorial Shield, a 7-2 away defeat. In 1984-85 we drew 0-0 in Maidstone in an FA Trophy 2nd round match, but lost the replay 2-0 in thick fog. The final meeting was a pre-season friendly on 25th July 1991, when we lost 2-1 at Woodside Road.

That original club folded the following year, after three seasons in the Football League, and a new club was formed, initially playing in the lower reaches of the Kent County League. That club were later renamed Maidstone United and is the one that we face today.

The first encounter with the current club was a home Isthmian League Division 1 South fixture on 17th December 2011, which we won 5-1 with two goals from Mike Huckett and one each from Tom Manton, Luke Gedling and Steve Davies. The return match was a goalless draw, played at Sittingbourne’s Bourne Park ground.

The following year we again won at home, 2-0 this time, and drew away (2-2); the away match was played at Maidstone’s current ground and was the first time that we had played a match on an artificial surface.

Maidstone were promoted at the end of that season and we did not meet again until 20th December 2022, when we lost 2-0 away in an FA Trophy tie. In 2023-24 we met in National League South for the first time, losing 4-0 away but replicating the score from our first league encounter 12 years earlier in the home fixture. Our latest meeting was in last season’s play-off semi-final at Woodside Road on 20th April, when Ollie Pearce scored twice to secure a 2-1 victory.
