It’s got all the makings of a classic Emirates FA Cup tie tomorrow, as the Rebels who are 5th in the National League South, welcome Morecambe, who are bottom of League Two, to Woodside Road.
In terms of FA Cup history, it is just the sixth time that the Rebels will play in the First Round of the competition and with a win tomorrow afternoon, they would equal their best-ever FA Cup run. That was back in 1982 when they beat Dartford at home in the First Round to set up a trip to Oxford United in the Second Round.
Chris Agutter’s side come into the contest full of confidence after back-to-back league wins this week. They defeated Slough Town at home last Saturday in a dramatic encounter that ended 4-3 and then they followed that up with a 2-0 away win at Bath City in midweek.
Their Emirates FA Cup run so far has seen them win three matches to get to this stage. Home wins against Havant & Waterlooville and Dartford set up a Fourth Qualifying Round trip to Plymouth Parkway, where Worthing were comfortable 4-0 winners.
Team News
Forward Muhammadu Faal was sent off during last weekend’s home win against Slough Town and, with suspensions taking a week to become active, he will serve his suspension tomorrow.
Jack Wadham, who missed three matches with a knee injury, returned to action on Tuesday night having returned to full fitness.
View from the Camp
“We’re looking forward the challenge of playing against a football league club in front of a big crowd at Woodside.
“We go into the game with nothing to lose, really. I think all the pressure is on them. I try to put myself in their shoes, travelling a long way, playing on 3G, and playing against a team in form when they aren’t in the best place themselves.
“You think of all the ingredients you wouldn’t want as a manager of a higher-level team going into this game and they’re all there. So there’s no pressure on us. We’ve got everything to gain and nothing to lose”.
The Opposition
After finishing 15th in League Two under Derek Adams last season, the Shrimps have had a difficult start to their second season back in the fourth tier. They currently sit bottom of the table, having won just one league match out of their 14 so far this term.
Their single win came three weeks ago away at Barrow, but since then, the Shrimps have lost each of their last three matches.
