1-1

Our first meeting with Chelmsford City was a pre-season friendly played on 10th August 1985 at Woodside Road, Micky Edmonds scoring a penalty in a 1-1 draw.

Micky was also on target when we met in a competitive match for the first time, Kevin Platt scoring the other goal when we won 2-0 at home in an FA Trophy match on 21st November 1987. That victory is our highest winning margin in these meetings.

Another friendly was played five years later, before reorganisation of the leagues meant that we found ourselves opposed to Chelmsford in league competition for the first time, playing them in the Isthmian League Premier Division for three seasons from 2004.

That first season, the away fixture was played at Billericay Town’s New Lodge ground, as Chelmsford waited to move into their current ground; the following year’s away match was the first that we played at that new venue, Melbourne Park.

Following our relegation to Division 1 South, the next time we met was for an FA Cup tie in 2014, and this we lost 6-0 in Essex, suffering our largest margin of defeat in these matches. We returned four years later to gain revenge in the FA Cup, then after a further four years, we started to play each other in league competition again, this time in National League South.

Our most recent meeting came on 4th March this year, when we travelled to Chelmsford and secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a late wonder-strike from Jack Wadham.
