It’s got all the makings of a classic Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie this afternoon as the Rebels travel to Devon to face Exeter City who are 3rd in the FAWNL Southern Premier.
It’s a historic fixture for the Rebels as it’s the first time in the club’s history any senior side has reached the third round of the FA Cup. Reaching this stage of the competition goes one further than the side’s best ever FA Cup run. That was two seasons ago when John Donoghue led the team to the Second Round to face Tier 3 side MK Dons.
Jesus Cordon’s side come into the contest full of confidence after returning to winning ways. They defeated Maidenhead 3-1 as they returned to the Sussex Transport Community Stadium thanks to goals from Katie Cooper, Sophie Humphrey and Danielle Rowe.
The Rebels Adobe Women’s FA Cup run so far has seen them win three matches to get to this stage. Away Wins against Abingdon United and Comets set up a Second-Round Proper trip to Aylesford where it was all level after 90 minutes and it was penalties to decide who gain a place in the Third Round. Humphrey, Rowe, Winchester, Young and Bell all stepped and scored which left it in the hands of Bell to send the side into the Third Round and make club history. Bell calmly finds the bottom corner and sends Worthing into the Third round for the first time in history.
