It has been a successful week for Chris Agutter’s side, having won back-to-back National League South matches, scoring five and keeping two clean sheets. They followed up last weekend’s 3-0 demolition of Weston-super-Mare with a comfortable 2-0 win on the road at Salisbury on Tuesday night.

In typical fashion, the Rebels dominated possession once again on Tuesday night and they were rewarded for a bright start on 25 minutes when Danny Cashman put his side in front from the penalty spot. Into the second half, the Rebels doubled their tally through Harrison Smith after excellent work from Temi Babalola to create the goal. The result saw Worthing climb to 5th in the National League South and just three points behind league leaders Truro City.

In terms of the FA Trophy, the Rebels have won one game in the competition to get to this stage. It was a dramatic 3-2 win away at Sussex neighbours Chichester City that secured their place in Round 3 to set up tomorrow’s clash with Gosport Borough.

Team News

Chris Agutter is likely to be without two key players in Tommy Willard and Mo Faal tomorrow afternoon. Willard picked up a thigh injury early on in the recent defeat at Farnborough and remains about a week away from a return. While Faal was a late withdrawal from the starting eleven on Tuesday night at Salisbury after picking up an injury in the warm-up.

The Rebels will be boosted defensively tomorrow though, with Ollie Black (injury) and Joe Cook (suspension) back available for selection. Agutter also confirmed that Cameron Tutt has now returned to full training.

View from the Camp – Chris Agutter

“We’ve just got to keep building on some really decent performances which go back before the Weston win and I we see the game against Gosport as another opportunity to do that.

“Equally, we’re not taking Gosport lightly. They knocked out Tonbridge Angels in the previous round so we certainly won’t be underestimating Gosport.

“For us, it’s more of the same. We have high expectations of ourselves and the supporters have high expectations as well that every game we go into, there is a feeling that we should win. If we improve on performances of late, Gosport will have to play very very well to come through the tie unscathed.”

“We expect a tough test” – Agutter
