Our first match against tomorrow’s opponents was on 7th April 1998, when they were still known as Langney Sports. Goals from Micky Russell, Tony Holden and Mark Knee secured a 3-1 victory in the final of the Sussex Floodlight Cup, which was played at Culver Road in Lancing. We then met in a pre-season friendly three months later, and won 5-2 at Woodside Road.
In 1999-2000 we played them in the Sussex Senior Cup for the first time, and lost 3-0 at Priory Lane, this being our largest margin of defeat in these encounters. We have a dismal record against Eastbourne Borough in the Senior Cup, losing all five of our meetings, including in the 2016 final, which was played at Brighton & Hove Albion’s Falmer Stadium.
In 2022-23, when we met in National League South, we faced each other in league competition for the first time, Borough’s progress having been through the Southern League and ours through the Isthmian League.
That season also saw us meet in an FA Cup tie for the first time, with our visitors winning 2-1 at Woodside Road. We gained revenge in that competition last season, winning 1-0 on their ground.
The latest meeting between us took place last New Year’s Day, when we recorded our largest winning margin in these matches, 4-0 in the away league fixture, the goals being scored by Ollie Pearce, Nicky Wheeler, Ricky Aguiar and Joan Luque.
