The Rebels will look to stretch their unbeaten run in the National League South to seven matches as they make the trip to Hornchurch this Saturday to take on an Urchins side who are without a win in their last four league outings.
Last time out, Chris Agutter’s side bowed out of the Sussex Transport Senior Cup, as they lost to Horsham on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes. Joel Colbran’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Lucas Rodrigues’ header and, with Horsham perfect in the shootout and Jack Spong striking the upright with his spot-kick, it was the Hornets who booked their place in the last 4 of the competition.
After successive cup matches, the Rebels return to National League South action this weekend as the 7th-placed side in the division. Having picked up 14 points out of a possible 18, the Rebels are 4th in the form guide heading into the weekend’s fixtures.
Team News
Barring the longer-term injuries in the squad, Aarran Racine hopes that the coaching staff will have an ‘almost’ fully fit squad to choose from for tomorrow’s encounter at Hornchurch.
View from the Camp – Aarran Racine
“I think it was quite clear to see that we were poor at the basics on Tuesday night against Horsham. Especially in the second half, we lost control and I think they sensed that and took charge of the second half.
“Your motivation, naturally after you lose, is to put that right in the next game you play. I think we’re very aware as a group that we need to be more consistent and, even though we’re six unbeaten in the league, we’re not entirely happy with the performances because we know there’s more to come.
“Hornchurch were very well organised and very well drilled and made it hard for us when they came to us earlier this season. It’s always a tough place to go, but we’ll prepare in the same way that we always do – we’ll look at their strengths and weaknesses and look to expose that.”
The Opposition
Hornchurch have had a very respectable first season in the National League South under Daryl McMahon, currently placed 14th with 32 points after 24 matches played.
Although, currently the Urchins are without a win in their last four (completed) league matches. They were beaten away at Truro City last time out and their New Year’s Day match at home to Tonbridge Angels was abandoned.
