Worthing come into this one off the back of a draw in midweek at home to promotion rivals Torquay United in an enthralling encounter at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.

After an engaging first fifteen minutes, Worthing took the lead through Joe Partington’s header from Jack Spong’s whipped corner to the front post. The visitors then grew into the contest and were back level through Jordan Young’s free-kick which was almost an exact re-creation of the one he struck five weeks prior at Woodside Road in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

The Rebels regained the lead before half time through Liam Nash who scored his second in as many matches in a Worthing shirt. Into a cagey second half, the turning point came on 74 minutes when Sam Beard was shown a red card for a foul. But, five minutes later, Torquay were reduced to 10 men when Sam Dreyer was given his marching orders for bringing down Temi Babalola.

However, the Gulls dug deep and after dominating a 15-minute period, they got themselves an all-important equaliser from the penalty spot as the match headed into injury time.

The Rebels remained 2nd in the league table despite dropping points. Current league leaders Dorking Wanderers scored an injury-time winner on Tuesday night which extended the gap to three points, but Chris Agutter’s side do have three games in hand over the Wanderers.

Team News

Although Sam Beard was shown a red card on Tuesday night, his three-match suspension won’t kick in until next week’s match at home against Salisbury.

Nicky Wheeler remains a doubt after coming off with a knock on Tuesday night against Torquay.

View from the Camp – Chris Agutter

“I thought we were good value for at least a point on Tuesday night and watching it back, we were creating chances up until the sending-off but then the dynamic of the game shifted a little bit. We went into survival mode but never got back out of survival mode after their sending-off.

“It was a really good game at Woodside against Slough – it could have been 7-7! I think Scott (Davies) is a bit of a football purist as well so it wouldn’t surprise me if they come into it with the same approach again. We know it’s going to be a difficult game.”

They have dropped to 16th in the league table but remain well clear of any relegation trouble, with Scott Davies’ side 10 points clear of the drop zone.
