Despite playing nearly the entirety of the second half with ten men, the Rebels managed to score a 96th minute winner away at Chelmsford City on Saturday to secure an important three points.

Temi Babalola put Worthing in front on the stroke of half time, but just two-and-a-half minutes into the second half, Cameron Tutt was shown red after a second bookable offence. It got from bad to worse for the Rebels, with Charlie Ruff striking the resulting free-kick straight into the back of the net.

After a cagey second half, down to ten men, it looked like it was heading for a draw when Nicky Wheeler popped up with a 96th minute strike into the bottom left corner to secure a memorable three points.

It’s a result that keeps Worthing’s fate in their own hands in the National League South, with the Rebels currently four points behind the league leaders Dorking Wanderers, with two games in hand.

Team News

Joe Partington was a late withdrawal from the starting eleven on Saturday through illness, so it remains to be seen whether he will be okay to play on Tuesday night.

Sam Beard is back available after serving a three-match suspension, while Cam Tutt is also available on Tuesday night, with his one-match suspension being served for Saturday’s match against Chesham United.

View from the Camp – Chris Agutter

“Bath away was a really tough day at the office. It was one of our most satisfying wins because it was a bit dogged, a bit rough and ready, but I thought it was a really professional performance.

“They’ve picked up under Darren. He’s a very good coach, I know him from when he was at Plymouth. You can see his team has really evolved – he’s done a cracking job there.

“We will go into Tuesday with the same attitude, commitment and mentality and that will give us the best chance to put more points on the board.”

The Opposition

After a difficult start to the 2024/25 season, Bath City parted ways with First Team Manager, Jerry Gill. He was replaced by Darren Way who has overseen a change in fortunes for the Romans at Twerton Park.

Bath are currently 19th in the league table, but are now 9 points clear of the relegation zone. They have picked up four points from their last two fixtures, with a win away at Salisbury followed by a 0-0 draw at home to high-flying Eastbourne Borough.
