It was another nervy finish on Tuesday night, but Chris Agutter’s side held on for an important three points against Bath City, which moved them to second place in the National League South.
After going into the break goalless, Jack Spong opened the scoring just two minutes into the second half with a low strike from the edge of the area. Bath City leveled on 72 minutes, through their captain Kieran Parselle. But Worthing were not to be outdone as Danny Cashman struck the winner with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Just seven points separate the top seven teams in the league table, with the battle for promotion heading right down to the wire. The Rebels know that their fate remains in their own hand, with that game-in-hand over the league leaders Dorking Wanderers.
Team News
Nicky Wheeler is a doubt ahead of Saturday’s match. Boss Chris Agutter commented, “The way that he plays and how important he is for us, we need to make sure he’s right and we need to look after him.”
Tommy Willard picked up a knock against Bath City on Tuesday night, so he might also miss out. Joe Partington has recovered from his illness that kept him out of the match at Chelmsford City last weekend and is available for selection on Saturday afternoon.
Cameron Tutt will serve his suspension for the red card he was shown at Chelmsford City. Joe Cook has now reached 10 yellow cards, but his two match ban will be in effect from next Saturday’s game against Hemel Hempstead Town.
View from the Camp – Chris Agutter
“Watching the game back, there was plenty to like about our performance on Tuesday night. We created plenty of chances and played some really good football at times
“We’re certainly not going to turn our nose up at winning games, but we’d much rather win more comfortably than what we are. I think it’s a final ball, or better decision, or better finish away from being more convincing.
“Chesham are dangerous and have some really good individual players. They play in a different way to us, but they’ve got a lot of quality and I’m keen to make that abundantly clear.”
