The Reds enjoyed a positive return to home soil last weekend; following back-to-back away defeats at Welling United and Hornchurch they swept aside Hampton & Richmond relatively comfortably despite a host of missed chances in the first half.

The Opposition

The Tinners make the 500-mile round trip currently sitting in third place, just three points behind Chris Agutter’s team who lead the way in National League South.

They were promoted to step 2 in 2022/23 after a four year absence following a dramatic 3-2 win over Bracknell Town in the Southern League Premier Division South play-off final.

Their first season back was disrupted by pitch issues at their temporary home of Bolitho Park which lead them to play home fixtures at both Taunton Town and Gloucester City at the back end of the campaign.

Their return to the city and the Truro City Stadium this season has sparked an upturn in fortunes with the club on course to secure at least a play-off place.

Manager

The experienced John Askew was appointed Tinners boss in June last year following managerial spells at Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury Town, Port Vale, York City and Hartlepool United.

Key Player

City’s main man, Tyler Harvey has been in terrific form once again this season, leading the way with 25 goals as the National League South’s top scorer, including 9 in his last 8 appearances.

The 29-year-old was City’s top goal scorer in each of the last three campaigns, also becaming the first Truro player to score a competitive goal at the club’s new Truro City Stadium.

Form

The side from Cornwall have been in slendid form of late, recently going ten unbeaten in the league prior to the surprise defeat at Enfield Town when they conceded twice in injury time.

Previous Meetings

The two sides met for the very first time last season – a 2-2 draw at Woodside Road in National League South. Despite falling behind inside 5 minutes, goals from Joe Felix and Ollie Pearce put the Reds in charge but after being reduced to nine men following the dismissals of Luca Woodhouse and Felix, Truro snatched a point with an equaliser deep into injury time.

A superb performance at Bolitho Park in January last year saw Worthing come out 4-1 winners in the return fixture but it was a different story when the two sides met in Cornwall for the first time at the start of the current campaign, Agutter’s men had a Bank Holiday Monday to forget back in August being on the end of a 5-0 defeat.

The Reds boss has no new injury concerns and is just waiting on the fitness of Aarran Racine to determine whether he can be involved in the matchday squad.

Despite returning to training, long term absentee Alfie Young is still not ready to be considered for selection.
