The 22-year-old joins the club following a strong stint of development with Bognor Regis Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
Burgess was an influential figure for the Rocks over a two-year period, which included the midfielder wearing the captain’s armband on several occasions. He was recognised for his consistent performances by his peers last year as he was named the Players’ Player of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign.
In his formative years, the Englishman gained invaluable experience during his time with Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth’s academies.
While on the books at the Cherries, he ventured into senior football with loan spells at Truro City and Slough Town.
The all-encompassing midfielder enjoyed a brief taste of sixth-tier football with the latter, as he spent the final portion of the 2022/23 campaign in Berkshire.

Burgess becomes our third acquisition of the summer as Chris Agutter’s squad continues to develop ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“Matty is a player who will give our midfield even more energy, enthusiasm and legs on top of real quality with the football,” Aggy revealed.
“A box-to-box midfielder who we know is more than capable of effecting every moment of the game both in and out of possession.”
The promising talent joins Razzaq Coleman De-Graft and Kwaku Frimpong in signing for the Rebels with preparations in full swing ahead of the new campaign.
“Matty is another great character and personality,” Aggy added.
“Despite only being in his early 20s, he’s a real leader, which was reflected in him being given the captaincy at Bognor Regis Town F.C.”
Welcome to Worthing, Matt!
