Chris Agutter and his players are poised for a tough test tomorrow afternoon, as they visit former EFL outfit Dagenham & Redbridge.
Preparation for Saturday’s encounter has been positive, as the Reds enter the contest off the back off a crucial victory on Tuesday night.
Worthing dispatched of Salisbury with ease, as two goals at the end of the first period from Joe Cook and Joel Colbran secured a 2-0 win over the Whites at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.
That triumph extended our unbeaten run at home to four matches following our thrilling 3-3 draw with Maidstone United last weekend.
Successive league wins for the first time this term will be the objective for the Rebels come Saturday 3pm, before they jet off to Jersey for their FA Cup exploits next Saturday.
TEAM NEWS
Jack Spong and Nicky Wheeler will both be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s clash. The pair were forced off with injuries during midweek, with the extent of the issues unknown.
Brad Dolaghan’s fitness will also be monitored after the striker missed Tuesday night’s game entirely through a minor injury.
THE OPPOSITION
Dagenham & Redbridge have their sights set on an immediate return to the National League following their relegation last season.
The Daggers were demoted by the finest of margins as they fell just a single point short of safety, with Wealdstone pipping them to 20th position on the final day, thus ending an almost decade-long stay in the fifth tier.
This campaign, they’ve embarked on their first season at this level for over 20 years, although they haven’t managed to find their groove in the opening stages.
Tomorrow’s opponents have endured a tough start to the season with only one win in their first seven games. However, their last home match did end with three points, as they edged out Hemel Hempstead Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
THE GAFFER
Former Dagenham striker Lee Bradbury was appointed as the East London outfit’s First-Team Manager during the summer.
Bradbury succeeded Lewis Young, who was relieved of his duties following the Club’s relegation. The 50-year-old hasn’t held a Manager’s role since his stint in the dugout at Eastleigh in 2023.
After a 16‑year playing career as a versatile forward – with spells at the likes of Portsmouth, Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth – Bradbury transitioned into management in 2011 with the latter.
He then guided Havant & Waterlooville to successive promotions, as he claimed the Isthmian League Premier Division before lifting the National League South title in the 2017/18 season. More recently, he served on the coaching staff at Port Vale, helping them achieve promotion from League Two.
In his youth, Dagenham’s boss made three caps for England at Under-21 level before going on to make over 500 senior appearances in his club career.
ONE TO WATCH
The Daggers have signed two high profile strikes last summer, with Ashley Hemmings and Andy Carroll arriving through the doors at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.
The latter, who also bought shares in the club, is currently out injured, so Hemmings is tasked with providing the goal threat for tomorrow’s hosts.
Since joining from Kidderminster Harriers in June, the 34-year-old has scored twice in his second spell for the club thus far, in the form of converted spot-kicks in the 2-2 draws against Tonbridge Angels and Dover Athletic.
Hemmings’ goal record at this level speaks for itself, as he grabbed the National League North Golden Boot award last season while at Kidderminster Harriers.
Dagenham’s number mine netted 30 goals, eight more than closest competitor Paul Blackett and three more than National League South top scorer Tyler Harvey.
He broke through the ranks at Wolverhampton Wanderers as a teenager before also appearing for Walsall, Mansfield Town and AFC Fylde.
