The Reds face Bournemouth Sports with hopes of starting 2026 with a bang. Worthing currently sit bottom of the FA Women’s National League Division One South West after suffering a 4-2 defeat last time out to Portishead Town.

Jesus Cordon ahead of Sunday: “It is a massive game for us. We have to come with energy
after resting for a few weeks.

“Massive. Massive game” – Jesus Cordon

Bournemouth Sports defeated Worthing last time out, with a 2-1 victory at the Sussex Community
Transport Stadium. A close encounter that could have been deserving of more.

Currently, the gap to safety is only two points and depending on other results, a win could see Worthing rise out of the relegation zone. Lauren Amerena shone last time out, scoring the Reds’ only two goals.

The team will have to adapt to life without her services since she moved onto pastures new.

JC on Lauren’s transfer: “Lauren was our top scorer, a great player. We move on, we adapt. She decided to take on a new challenge and enhance her development.“

A win on Sunday could see the side gain some great momentum as they head into a tough triple-header of away fixtures.

JC on the second half of the season: “We are approaching the second half of the season positively. We know we are fighting until the end. We need to secure the key points of the teams around us, which can secure our safety.”

The Opposition

Bournemouth Sports have held their own so far this campaign, currently sitting seventh in
the league but only six points above the Rebels. They come into this fixture off the back of a 4-2 loss away to Abingdon United, so they will be hunting to pick up the pieces and get back to winning ways.

They have achieved three of their four wins this season at home, making it a difficult place for teams to leave with all three points. Liane Folkenstern will look to cause problems in the final third with her constant threat. She has contributed three goals and three assists to her side this campaign.

The Spaniard addressed the opposition: “They are having a great season, doing the right things, gaining key points. It will be a tense game away. The girls will want more after the last outing.”

A win would see Worthing close the gap to just three points off Bournemouth Sports.

However, a win for the home side helps them bridge a nine-point gap to the bottom of the
league, meaning there is a lot at stake for both sides.
