The Reds are currently bottom of the league, sitting only two points off safety. Worthing had the opportunity to climb out of the relegation zone last weekend but were narrowly defeated 2-1 away to Bournemouth Sports.

JC on last week’s performance and the buildup to Sunday: “The game was positive, and we
deserved more.

This week has been positive, and the team are in a great position to compete again and win points.” – Jesus Cordon

The last time the Rebels faced Bridgwater was last season, drawing 1-1 at home and defeating them 3-1 away. This will fill the side with confidence that they can return to Fairfax Park and take points.

The gap to safety is two points, and Worthing were unlucky not to come away with anything after a well-fought battle in Bournemouth. After losing a few players, the team have lost some depth, but this will allow players to step up and fight to lift this team up the table.

JC on performances: “We need to keep improving and playing like we did last week, creating good chances but be more clinical in front of the goal.”

A win would see the Reds lift out of the relegation zone, depending on other results and put them in a great position to kick on with another difficult game approaching at the end of the month away to Bristol Rovers.

The Spaniard on the mentality in the team: “We will go in with a positive mentality and that we can get something off them. It is tough times for us, and it can be easy to step away, but the players still here are committed and willing to keep fighting and pushing till the end.”

The Opposition

Bridgwater have had a good campaign so far, being very competitive at home. They have only lost once this season on their home turf in the league, that being their 2-0 loss to top of the league Moneyfields in December.

Their away fixture last week to Bristol Rovers was postponed, so they come into this fixture with Moneyfields being their last competitive game in over a month.

The home side will be motivated to kick off their new year strongly, but a lack of match sharpness may play into Worthing’s hands if they bring the same intensity they did last week.

Abbie Carslake is the player to watch out for, bagging five goals already this campaign. She will be looking to stretch the Worthing defence and attack space inside the box.

The gaffer on the opposition: “Bridgwater are a strong team, especially at home. They are
building on last season, particularly with their new signings.”
