Akanbi struck just eleven into his home debut, linking up with strike partner Jauvan Splatt to forge an opening that the former Maidstone man made no mistake with.

The match hadn’t started well for Akanbi, however. After just four minutes James Beresford was adjudged to have been felled in the area; Akanbi stepped up but his spot kick was comfortable beaten away by Jack Bycroft.

He didn’t have to wait long to make amends though, giving his new side the lead just seven minutes later, latching onto Splatt’s flick on to fire past Bycroft.

The frontman should have added to his tally ten minutes later – Bycroft made a mess of dealing with Joe Rye’s long ball and the ball fell invitingly to Akanbi but he snatched his effort well wide.

The away side grew into the game as the half wore on but their equaliser came out of nothing really when Sims-Burgess was allowed too much freedom in the box to head home.

The second half was an even affair, despite the men in Red’s best efforts to find a winner they failed to create too many clear cut chances, the best of which fell to Moe Shubbar in the dying embers however he lifted his effort well over the bar.

The draw ends a run of two consecutive defeats and leaves the Rebels in seventh place ahead of a trip to Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday.
