Having been without a fixture in eleven days due to postponements, Adam Hinshelwood’s side was somewhat revitalised as Joel Colbran and Lewis White returned from injury. Colbran started while White made the bench.

Added to this was the arrival of new loan signing Mo Dabre who made his Rebels debut.

The Terras, meanwhile, had played twice in this time, picking up just their second league victory on Saturday before their FA Cup exit at the hands of League Two Wimbledon in midweek.

It was an open and end-to-end start to proceedings in front of the 1,048 crowd at Woodside with both sides creating half chances in the first ten minutes.

But it was on the ten-minute mark when the visitors made it count. Keelan O’Connell played a neat one-two with Brad Ash on the edge of the area, and it opened up for O’Connell to fire the visitors in front.

After going in front, Weymouth were happy to allow the Rebels to play their football. There were half-chances for Aarran Racine from a corner and Josh Chambers from a direct free-kick but nothing to trouble Zaki Oualah in net.

That was until Harrison Male’s long ball over the top in the 32nd minute sent Callum Kealy one-on-one with Oualah and the striker comfortably slotted home to bring the hosts level.

It was a quickfire double for the Reds after a vintage, free-flowing move between Reece Meekums, Dabre, and the eventual scorer Ollie Pearce put them in front, just two minutes after the equaliser.

And that’s how the sides would head into the interval, with the Reds asserting their dominance.

The dominance would continue after the break. Just five minutes into the second half, Pearce’s cross was headed towards goal by Terras defender, Dan Matsuzaka. His blushes would be quite literally saved by Oualah who palmed it wide.

Some ten minutes later, Worthing probed again. This time a delightful cross from the left by Meekums found the advancing Joe Rye at the back post but the youngster couldn’t keep his effort on target.

It wasn’t long until the Rebels were rewarded with a third, though. This time a superb move on the right saw the ball played to Colbran where it opened up for him before he laid a cute pass through to Pearce who bagged his brace with a left-footed shot.

In the 69th minute, Hinshelwood made his first two changes, bringing on Moe Shubbar and White for Meekums and Dabre. The latter of whom impressed on his debut with plenty of energy throughout.

Weymouth threatened an equaliser in the 72nd minute as substitute Hari McCoy hit a sweet volley but Male was equal to it.

Two minutes later, it was Colbran who had a chance to make it four, but his powerful strike went narrowly wide of the upright.

Hinshelwood made his final chance in the 77th minute, swapping Kealy for Ibby Akanbi up front.

It was an instant impact off the bench for Akanbi. Chambers picked up a loose ball in his own half and set up the break by sending Akanbi through on goal. The striker dribbled into the area before firing past Oualah to get the fourth.

Three minutes later it looked set to be five as Shubbar dribbled fantastically inside from the right to the far side of the box before firing just wide.

Two minutes after, Akanbi was sent through one-on-one once more by Wills but this time Oualah was equal to his near-post effort.

Just before the full-time whistle, Wills tangled with Ash in the box and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Ash stepped up himself and converted what was only a consolation goal for the Terras.

Proceedings were brought to a close shortly after and Worthing had earned themselves a place in the hat for the Third Round draw.

It’s back to league action next for Hinshelwood’s men as they welcome Tonbridge Angels to The Crucial Environmental Stadium on Tuesday.
