After the visitors had taken a 35th minute through Travis Gregory’s goal, knocking in a rebound from Elliott Benyon’s penalty, Kealy popped up two minutes from time with a sublime volley to rescue a point for the Mackerel Men and leave Hinshelwood feeling more should have come from him and his team.
‘We definitely rescued a point from this game, we certainly weren’t at our best and personally it was a bad game for me too. I tried to change it about to make us more offensive throughout the game but it didn’t affect anything.’
‘A frustrating game I felt, after hitting the bar in the first five minutes I thought we were in for an entertaining game, the one we’ve been wanting for the supporters to enjoy. But it didn’t happen as planned, I maybe feel as it’s still early in the season, both us and Leatherhead are in slightly false positions, they’re a much better side than where their league position says and we’re maybe in a higher position than we expected given how young our side is.’
Hinshelwood was pleased with the impact Kealy brought to the team and praised his contribution to the team so far.
‘I think a lot of people forget the assists Callum has provided for the team so far, it’s not just about his goals. A brilliant strike though to bring us level and it’s easy to forget his age, he’s young, as are the majority of our team, I think 22 age was the average on Saturday and that goes unnoticed sometimes. But, we have good crowds watching us and they need to be excited more, I have to take responsibility for that.’
Hinshelwood felt Will Miles’ second booking was a little soft as was the penalty award.
‘Again, Will is a young man, only 22, sometimes we have to accept that these guys will make mistakes due to inexperience and it’s something for them to learn from. We’ll see it throughout the course of the season, but I would hope that with it comes the experience to deal with the situations as they arise. They all work very hard in training to learn and I can’t fault them for that.’
‘The penalty was a soft award in my opinion, although maybe we could have dealt with the ball a bit better, Lucas (Covolan) might well have taken control of the situation and it wouldn’t have given but having said that if we had taken our half chances at the other end those situations would almost be academic. Earlier in the season we were taking those chances.’
‘We are improving however all the time, me included. We try hard every game to find a way to win and unfortunately it didn’t come off today.’
