The Rebels are searching for a third consecutive win in the National League South after completing a league double over Eastbourne Borough over the festive period.

Adam Hinshelwood’s side built on their impressive 3-0 home win on Boxing Day by going to Priory Lane and brushing aside the Sports to complete the league double with a 4-0 win.

Michael Klass earned a penalty in the first half which Ollie Pearce tucked away for his 16th goal of the season in the National League South to take a lead into half time.

After the break, the Rebels run rampant. Nicky Wheeler doubled the lead just before the hour mark, firing in from point-blank range.

Ricky Aguiar soon added a third after a fine Rebels move, before Joan Luque completed the victory, striking home a sweet volley in added time.

The result moved the Rebels up to third place in the National League South, 3 points behind second-placed Hampton & Richmond, and 10 points off the leaders Yeovil Town.

The Opposition

The Clarets also completed a festive league double over their rivals, beating Braintree Town 3-0 home and away on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Before Christmas, they beat Torquay United at 2-0 at home, which means they’ve won their last three league matches while keeping a clean sheet.

Their impressive form as seen them rise to 6th in the league table, just two points behind the Rebels in third, and they boast the best defensive record in the league with 25 goals conceded in 25 matches.

two first-half goals from Ollie Pearce were not enough to avoid defeat, the home side triumphing 4-2 in this National League South fixture to complete a league double after winning the reverse fixture 3-1 at Woodside Road earlier in the season.

In total, Worthing have faced Chelmsford City on 11 occasions in competitive matches dating back to 1985. The Rebels have won just two of those encounters, drawing one and losing eight.

Team News

Earlier this week it was announced that Bailey Smith had returned to Brighton & Hove Albion following the expiration of his loan, while defender Udoka Chima had been released to find an opportunity elsewhere.

Jesse Starkey is close to returning to training with the squad and was back running at training this week. Adam Hinshelwood hopes that he will be able to be involved in the warm-up on Saturday and therefore be available to train in both sessions next week.

Danny Cashman is likely to be back and available for selection for tomorrow’s game having missed the New Year’s Day trip to Eastbourne with a slight hamstring problem.
