Worthing continued their fantastic run of form at the weekend as they dug deep to win 4-1 away at Weymouth, finishing the game with nine men following red cards for Reuben Livesey-Austin and Joel Colbran.

Danny Cashman put the Rebels in front in the opening ten minutes, but the Reds were forced to play 75 minutes with 10 men following Livesey-Austin’s dismissal on 15 minutes.

After weathering a few Weymouth storms, Worthing eventually were rewarded for their hard graft. Tommy Willard earned a penalty at the other end which Ollie Pearce dispatched down the middle for his 30th league goal of the season and the ninth consecutive match he had scored in.

After dealing with early pressure in the second half, Worthing found the back of the net once more. Pearce capitalised on a mistake at the back and finished exquisitely by lobbing stranded goalkeeper Gerard Benfield for Worthing’s third.

Machali Linton got a goal back for the Terras from point-blank range but it proved to be just a consolation, with Pearce netting at the other end again before the conclusion to complete his hat trick and a remarkable Rebels victory.

In the last minute of added time, Colbran picked up a second yellow card which rules him out for Worthing’s trip to Dartford on Saturday, 2nd March.

As for the league table, Worthing remain five points ahead of third-placed Chelmsford City and ten points behind league leaders Yeovil Town.

The Opposition

Despite their lowly league position, the Wings have been on a good run as of late as they battle for survival this season.

The Wings come into the game off the back of four games unbeaten and now sit just four points from safety.

Familiar Faces

Sonny Fish will line up against the Rebels this evening having recently completed a loan move to the South East London side. Fish joined the Rebels on loan back in August this season and netted in the 2-0 win against Weymouth on the August Bank Holiday.

He has since been on loan at Tonbridge Angels, where he made nine appearances and scoring once, before linking up with the Wings earlier this month. The 20-year-old bagged a late equaliser against Tonbridge Angels on Saturday to open his account for his new club.

Previous Meetings

The Rebels and the Wings have faced off on just three previous occasions in competitive fixtures with Worthing winning all three.

Adam Hinshelwood’s side completed a league double over the Wings last season and followed up the league double with a win in the reverse fixture this season when goals from Ollie Pearce and Ricky Aguiar secured a 2-0 win back in September.

Team News

Despite their red cards on Saturday, both Reuben Livesey-Austin and Joel Colbran will be available for Adam Hinshelwood to select in tonight’s match, with their suspensions kicking in from Saturday, 2nd March.

On the injury front, the squad has taken a couple of blows. Aldershot loanee Tommy Willard will miss tonight’s trip to South East London with a hamstring injury, while goalkeeper Roco Rees has fractured his finger.

In positive news, Joe Rye made his return to the pitch on Saturday for the first time in almost a month, while Greg Luer and Nicky Wheeler both edge closer to returns.
