The move to York City was announced on Tuesday and it was confirmed that Elphick and Morrison would join Hinshelwood in North Yorkshire.
Gary rejoined the club at the start of this season in a coaching position, having previously worked at the club between 2015-2017. He initially joined intending to play under Hinshelwood in 2015, however Adam’s resignation followed shortly after and Elphick was offered the chance to steer the ship, alongside Jon Meeney.
The pair guided the club to promotion from Isthmian League Division One South at the first attempt via the play-offs and consolidated in the Premier Division the following season. Meeney stepped away at the back end of that campaign, leaving Elphick in sole charge but a poor start to the season 2017/18 saw him leave his role and eventually be replaced by Hinshelwood’s return to the club.
His return at the start of this season saw him take up an important role in Hinshelwood’s backroom staff, working closely with the defensive unit this term.
Gary commented, “It’s been an absolute whirlwind. It’s happened very quickly and I haven’t had too much time to digest it, which in a way, leaving a young family, it’s actually probably better.
“I’ve felt every single emotion. This club has been special to me”.
“It will always hold a special place in my heart and I thank everyone from the fans, to the board, to the media team, everything. It’s been an absolute whirlwind of emotions and it’s gutting to stop it at this stage of the season because you wonder what if.
“But, when you speak to a club like York City, and this is no disrespect to Worthing because one day they will be there and I’m sure of that, the infrastructure, the offer and to be able to continue working with Hinsh and Cam, it’s a huge opportunity.”

Cam, meanwhile, first began working with the Rebels as a young coach in 2016. In his time at the club, he has worked at the Development Centre, with the Women’s team and with the First-Team as part of Hinshelwood’s coaching staff.
In his eight years at the club, Cam has been part of the coaching staff for the sides that won the Isthmian Premier Division and the Sussex Senior Cup last term.
He commented, “It’s been a really exciting journey, full of ups and downs. It’s not been all plain sailing but it’s been a really exciting time over the last few years.
“I’m really grateful for everyone who gave me the opportunity and I’m really thankful for everyone that’s been a part of that journey.
“This football club is summed up by people that want to do the best for the club and there are no egos attached to it. It’s full of people that are really hard-working and wanting to see this football club progress”.
