Worthing played their part in another memorable contest at the weekend as they ran out 4-3 winners against Slough Town. They fell behind less than five minutes in but were in the ascendancy at the interval thanks to goals from Muhammadu Faal and Danny Cashman from the spot.
The Reds started the second half brightly and added two more to their tally through captain Joel Colbran and Cashman’s second before the hour mark. Then, momentum swung in the visitors’ favour as they scored two goals in five minutes to get right back in it. Couple that with a sending-off for Faal and the Rebels had to work hard to cling on for three points, which they did to rise to 8th in the National League South.
Worthing and Bath City are the only sides in National League South action this midweek as they play catch-up from their fixture that was originally scheduled for Saturday 12th October, but both sides were competing in the Emirates FA Cup. This means that tonight’s fixture is Worthing’s game-in-hand over four of the teams above them and they can climb into the play-off places with just a point.
Team News
One notable absentee for the Rebels tonight is Glen Rea who misses out through suspension. He picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during last Tuesday’s defeat at Torquay and will serve a one-match ban tonight.
Chris Agutter’s side was boosted by the return of Joe Cook last time out and tonight they could be boosted further with Jack Wadham close to a return from his knee injury.
View from the Camp – Chris Agutter
“The travel is difficult, but I like Saturday-Tuesday because you can build a bit of momentum.
“It’s our game-in-hand so if we win tonight we could go up to 4th and we’re now join-points with teams in the playoffs so I think we’re ticking along quite nicely and there’s a lot more to come.
“We’ve got a squad that’s really capable of going Saturday-Tuesday. So, yeah the travelling is a pain, but equally, it gives us an opportunity to keep building the momentum which it looks like we’ve got at the minute.
The Opposition
Bath City come into tonight’s fixture having not won in their last four matches in all competitions. Their last victory came away at Chesham United at the start of October and they currently sit 20th in the National League South, but remain five points clear of the drop zone and just seven points off the playoff places at this early stage.
Last time out, they fell short at Clarence Park against St Albans City who won for just the second time in the league this season.
