The first time we played Boreham Wood was on 18th January 1969, in an Athenian League Division 2 fixture at Woodside Road. We lost 3-2, with our goals coming from Mick Streeter and an own goal, then lost 4-1 in the return fixture in April. That defeat is our equal highest margin of defeat in these encounters, matched by a 3-0 home friendly defeat on 9th August 2003.

Boreham Wood finished that season as champions, so we did not meet again until the Athenian League was reorganised in 1973, when we were both placed in Division 1, the new top division. Our first victory over them came on 1st September, when a goal from Mick Streeter secured a 1-0 win in Hertfordshire. We lost the home fixture 3-1 in the middle of May, but in between the two league matches we beat them 2-1 in a home Athenian League Cup tie.

Wood again finished as champions and moved on to the Isthmian League for the following season. We joined the Isthmian League in 1977-78, being founder-members of Division 2, and that season faced Boreham Wood, who were in the Premier Division, in the quarter-final of the Isthmian League Cup. The home tie finished goalless after extra-time and we lost the replay 2-0.

In 1982-83, we faced each other in Division 1, after our promotion and their relegation. Both matches ended 2-1 to the away side and we finished the season as champions; we did not meet them again until after our relegation in 1987.

After four seasons at that level, we returned to Division 2 in 1991, after a disastrous season when we only gained ten points; one of those came in the home fixture with today’s opponents, a 1-1 draw.

Our return to Division 1 two years later saw us meeting in league action again. The following season we achieved our highest margin of victory in these encounters, winning 4-0 both home and away; this was another season that Boreham Wood ended as champions, but this time we finished runners-up and followed them to the Premier Division.

We stayed in that division just one season, before relegation took us back to Division 1, where Wood rejoined us in 2000. Again, our reunion was short-lived, as our opponents finished as champions and returned to the Premier Division.

After reorganisation of the non-league game, we returned to the Premier Division in 2004, and were joined there by Boreham Wood, who had spent a couple of seasons in the Southern League, two years later. Our relegation at the end of that campaign meant that we have had to wait 17 years before meeting again.

Our latest encounter was the away league fixture earlier this season, on 2nd September, when goals from Temi Babalola and Danny Cashman gave us a 2-1 victory.
