The Rebels had to dig deep to secure all three points on their travels on Saturday as they took on fellow title challengers Maidstone United.

Worthing fell behind less than five minutes into the contest but got back on level terms 10 minutes later through an own goal. Mo Faal then found the back of the net against his former club to hand his side the lead going into the break. Maidstone dominated the second half, but Worthing’s defensive unit were stubborn and managed to cling on for an important league win.

It meant that the Rebels climbed to 3rd in the league table at the time (now 4th after last night’s result) and are level on points with the league leaders (tonight’s opponents) Boreham Wood.

Team News

Worthing will be without Sam Beard this evening as the defender serves the first of a two-match suspension for picking up ten yellow cards this season. His suspension only covers league matches, which means the defender will be available for Saturday’s FA Trophy match against Rochdale.

The Opposition

Tonight’s match sees the top two teams in the form guide going head-to-head, as Boreham Wood have taken 13 points from their last six matches. Their defeat at home to Chippenham Town on Saturday was their first taste of defeat since early November when they lost away at Aveley.

It brought an end to a 14-game unbeaten run that has seen the Wood climb to the top of the league table. They are the league’s second-top scorers, only behind Dorking Wanderers on that front and are now one of five teams on 52 points at the top of the National League South.
