Recent History

Chesham United Football Club was formed in 1917 following the merger of Chesham Town FC (who were founder members of the Southern League in 1894 when still known as just Chesham FC) and Chesham Generals (who took their name from the General Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway).

James Duncan and Michael Murray took over as joint managers in October 2018 with the team bottom of the table with just one point from eight games.  They turned the team’s fortunes around to such an extent that the club finished in a comfortable tenth position.  The club continued to progress and were second in the table when the league season was cancelled in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2021/22 the club finished sixth and just missed out on a play-off place, but the following season went one better only to lose in extra time to Bracknell Town in the play-off semi-final. However, the club put this disappointment firmly behind them with a magnificent season in 2023/24, winning the league by nine points to reach the National League for the first time.

Form

Chesham United have had a solid first season at National League South level, with the Generals currently in 16th place in the league table, 14 points clear of the relegation zone.

They’ve had a difficult run recently, where they have picked up just four points from their last six matches. Their 1-0 win away at Hampton & Richmond Borough at the end of February was followed with a 4-1 defeat at home to high-flying Truro City last time out.
