Worthing Football Club are proud to support this campaign, as we unite in the fight to end male violence against women and girls.

This year’s campaign theme is “We Speak Up”, encouraging men to become active allies and take a stand against any form of male abuse, or violence towards women.

The statistics are stark: according to the National Audit Office, over 1 in 4 women will experience sexual assault or attempted assault in their lifetime.

To help raise awareness and show our solidarity, the team will be wearing white armbands for Tuesday night’s National League South match away at Torquay United and again at home to Hornchurch on Saturday 29th November.

Some other statistics that highlight this pressing issue include:

  • 3 in 5 women have experienced sexual harassment, bullying or verbal abuse in the workplace (Trades Union Congress, 2023).
  • 39% of secondary school teachers said they had seen at least one incident of misogynistic behaviour from a pupil in the last week (BBC, 2025)

Lots of people see crimes like sexual assault or harassment as extreme and isolated. The truth is that even the smallest everyday actions count to make a difference. By simply not passing off sexist ‘jokes’, cat-calling or staring, you can help stop behaviour that can lead to serious violence. Every time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right, we miss a chance to set a better example.

The “We Speak Up” theme emphasises men’s active voices in preventing violence against women and girls: speaking up, not staying silent, modelling respect.

We want to lead by example and continue to challenge sexist behaviour in the stands and dressing rooms and encourage our supporters to also feel responsible in this fight against misogyny and violence. We encourage players, staff and fans alike to embody the the promise of “never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women.”
