The Mackerel Men had to fight off two very strong Hastings performances and twice had to come back from behind in dramatic fashion. Shola Ayoola rescued a replay in the first of the two fixtures when Worthing looked certain to be crashing out of the cup.
Hastings then came to Woodside with bags of confidence and found themselves 2-0 up just past half time. Once again Worthing were not down and out, goals from Lloyd Dawes and Ollie Pearce rescued Adam Hinshelwood’s men before Marvin Armstrong headed home in extra time to put the boys in red through.
Worthing now face the 160 mile round trip up the m25 to National league south side St Albans. The Saints currently sit 16th in the table having gained 12 points from 10 games.
This will be St Albans first cup outing this season as the national league south teams join the prestigious trophy at this stage. It’s set up to be a tasty affair with Worthing looking to continue a so far eventful FA Cup campaign.
Please note that due to the fixture being played on the 21st of September our away fixture against Potters bar will be scheduled for another date which is yet to have been confirmed.
Ticket and coach information for the trip to St Albans will be announced in due course, keep an eye on the website and socials for more information.
