Chris is a qualified accountant and works for West Sussex County Council, where he is a senior finance manager supporting services with publicly funded multi million expenditure budgets. His experience in financial strategy, financial planning and financial management reporting will bring invaluable knowledge and know how to the club. Chris will join the board and the newly formed Management Committee.
Chris lives locally and first watched Worthing play in an FA Vase Fifth Round match with Billericay in 1979. His interest in the club grew further during the Barry Lloyd era in the 1980s, which was around the time that he began a thirty year career as a referee. This eventually led to him refereeing on the current equivalent of National League South and being an assistant referee on the National League. The pinnacle was being appointed to referee the Sussex Senior Cup Final in 2004 when Worthing played Brighton Reserves. After hanging up his whistle, the lure of the non-league game brought him back to Woodside Road, where he has been a regular for the past few years and is now a season ticket holder.
Commenting on Chris’ appointment, Chairman Barry Hunter said “This is another huge signing for the club, albeit “off the park” and I’m delighted that Chris has agreed to join our newly formed and highly experienced Management Committee. Chris has that perfect blend of being a proven professional in his field, a strong affection for Worthing Football Club and a love of non league football. I have no doubt he will play a pivotal role in helping the club navigate through its journey into the National League structure and ensure we are financially sustainable over the long term. I would also like to thank on behalf of the whole club, John Whyte, for such a personal and professional commitment he has given over many years and we look forward to him continuing to help on future key projects.”
Chris joins a number of other new, select and highly experienced appointees to the clubs newly formed management committee who have joined during the 2020 lockdown period. These include Dave Cocoracchio (Commercial Director), Nathan Bowen (General Manager and Director of Football), Angela Tanner (Special Projects and Community Engagement) and Mike Tanner (Premises). They join Vas Vassiliou (Club Secretary) and Dave Dowell (Match day operations), already members of the management committee.
