Worthing were looking to make it back-to-back wins in the league for the second time this season, and they started the game off brightly. Leatherhead keeper: Manny Agboola made two fantastic saves in the opening five minutes of the game; preventing the rebels from taking an early lead.

Worthing were squandering chances early on. Reece Meekums was twice denied by Agboola, in the space of two minutes – after the ten minute mark. Meekums later turned provider after 18’ minutes. He set up Ollie Pearce to have a go at goal, as Worthing’s pressure continued to loom over the host’s backline.

Worthing’s early dominance paid off after 21’ minutes. Dean Cox showed his experience, latching onto a clever ball through from Ollie Pearce – before finishing emphatically beyond Agboola.

Leatherhead responded well to going behind. Alexander Samizadeh should’ve brought the hosts back on level terms at the half hour mark. Fortunately for The Mackerel Men, the Iranian striker got his header all wrong.

Hinshelwood’s men, were able to see out a very strong first half with relative ease. Perhaps feeling like they could have even scored a goal or two more, in the first half. After having created a considerable amount of chances.

The hosts started off the first half on top, with Samizadeh at the heart of everything good about their play. The only thing missing from his game, was a bit of quality end product.

Quality end product was something you felt Marvin Armstrong could provide, as he burst into the penalty area on the 60th minute. However, before being able to unleash a shot, Worthing’s midfield maestro was bundled to the ground. Referee Alex Bradley pointed straight to the penalty spot.

Dayshonne Golding was the man handed responsibility. He readied himself, looking assured, The Rebel’s Number 18 opened up his body, ready to try and fire past Agboola. It wasn’t to be though, as Golding’s effort was tame and Agboola saved well to his left-hand side.

The penalty miss didn’t affect Worthing though. Just a few minutes later, Armstrong collected the ball in midfield and courtesy of Bradley’s advantage, he was able to switch the play to Meekums. On the right, Meekums was able to dance past a couple of defenders, before setting up Pearce who finished past the helpless Agboola.

With momentum running through the team, Meekums sensed the chance to get a goal of his own. As the clock struck 76’ minutes, the magical Meekums collected the ball out on the right. Just as he did for Worthing’s second goal, the Number 17 dazzled past the Leatherhead defence, who were star struck by his quick feet. This time Meekums went alone. Capping off a brilliant solo-move, with aplomb – firing into the bottom right corner.

The game wasn’t done yet though. Substitute Mo Diallo wanted to prove himself, and did in style on the 80th minute. A precise ball was swung in towards Diallo, who finished with ease in front of the Worthing fans, who’s chants of “Easy, Easy”, rubbed salt in the wounds of a bruised Leatherhead side.

The game was sealed. Back-to-back wins for The Rebels, who you feel are only just getting things started.
