Worthing’s confidence will be sky-high coming into this one off the back of back-to-back wins to cement their second-place position in the league table.

Adam Hinshelwood’s side backed up their dominant win at Truro with a gritty 1-0 away win at Tonbridge Angels at the weekend to secure their position as ‘best of the rest’ behind league leaders Yeovil Town.

Of course, it was talisman Ollie Pearce who netted the only goal, his 21st this season in the National League South.

The Rebels had to avoid a scare inside the last ten minutes when the home side were awarded a penalty as Paris Lock went down under Finlay Chadwick’s challenge. Lewis Gard stepped up to take the spot kick but blazed it well over and the Rebels held on to claim all three points.

The Opposition

Slough Town, nicknamed ‘The Rebels’ themselves, have been on a decent run of late and most recently defeated Maidstone United in a strong home performance.

They are currently placed 11th in the league table and are just 3 points off the playoffs, with a game in hand.

26/12 – Hampton & Richmond Borough (H) – Drew 3-3

Previous Meetings

The most recent meeting was at Slough’s current Arbour Park ground earlier this season, on 15th August, where two goals from Ricky Aguiar and one each from Nicky Wheeler and Joan Luque secured a 4-1 victory in this National League South fixture.

The two league meetings last season ended level; the match at Woodside Road finished 2-2, while it was 1-1 at Arbour Park later in the season. However, Worthing were the winners in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round meeting between the two sides last term.

Team News

Nicky Wheeler has returned from his honeymoon but it remains to be seen whether the winger will feature this evening having not trained with the squad for a fortnight or so. Unfortunately for Adam Hinshelwood, he will be without Kane Wills for the next couple of weeks with the versatile midfielder away himself.

Odei Martin Sorondo has had the damage of his knee injury confirmed; the midfielder has suffered a broken meniscus and will be out of Hinshelwood’s longer-term plans.

Defender Joe Rye was uncharacteristically substituted early during the Rebels’ win at Tonbridge with the 19-year-old feeling a tight hamstring. Hinshelwood hopes that the early substitution will have prevented any further damage, however tonight’s meeting with Slough might have come a little too soon for the defender to play a part.

Supporter Information

Kick-off at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium is 7.45pm, while gates open at 5.15pm. Supporters are advised to arrive early to avoid long queues.

Previous Meetings

The sides were paired together in the Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying earlier this season with the Rebels winning the encounter by a narrow 1-0 margin thanks to Jake Robinson’s goal. Roco Rees pulled off heroics in the Worthing goal to keep a clean sheet, pulling off a stunning triple save.

In total, the sides have faced each other 10 times in competitive matches, with the Rebels winning three, losing six and drawing one.
