Worthing first played Slough Town on 5th May 1949, when we travelled to their Dolphin Stadium ground for a Corinthian League fixture and won 2-1, with two goals from Ron Wood. This was our first season in the Corinthian League and we would meet them every year in that competition until its demise in 1963.

The most recent meeting was at Slough’s current Arbour Park ground earlier this season, on 15th August, where two goals from Ricky Aguiar and one each from Nicky Wheeler and Joan Luque secured a 4-1 victory in this National League South fixture.

Our largest winning margin in these matches is five, which we have achieved three times. The first was a 6-1 home win in the Corinthian League in 1949, then came a 5-0 win in 1961 at their ground in the same competition and three years later we repeated the score at home in Division 1 of the Athenian League, a result that secured our promotion spot.

Our heaviest defeat in these meetings came in 1951, when we lost the away league match 11-1.

Another result that should be mentioned is the home league match in 1951, which finished 6-5 in our favour.

We have played Slough in the league cup of the Corinthian League (known as the Memorial Shield), in the Athenian League’s Division 1 cup (also the Memorial Shield) and in the Athenian League Cup.  This last match was the final, which we lost in extra-time, and it was one of the last matches to be played at the Dolphin Ground. We also played them in the Isthmian’s Full Members’ Cup, which was the cup for teams in the top two divisions.

In the 1980s we reached the Isthmian League Premier Division for the first time and started to face Slough in league competition again; the first meeting came at Slough’s “new” Wexham Park ground. By 2004 they had lost the use of that ground and our next four away fixtures with them were staged at Stag Meadow, the home of Windsor & Eton.

Last season was the first time that we played them in an FA competition.
