Adam Hinshelwood named a strong starting eleven for the Rebels’ friendly at The Sportsfield, with the aim of the fixture to benefit players returning from injury.

Cameron Tutt, Kane Wills and Ollie Pearce were among those named in the strong starting XI.

Worthing took the lead in the eighth minute through an own goal from Greg Luer’s cross from the left-hand side.

The hosts replied instantly, winning a free-kick on the right flank which was crossed into the penalty area and headed home by Joe Summerbell.

Michael Klass was at the heart of a glorious, free-flowing move which saw the Rebels regain the lead not long after. The midfielder linked up with Greg Luer on the edge of the box with a one-two, before driving forward and squaring to Danny Cashman who couldn’t miss at the far post.

Soon after the half-hour mark, Reece Meekums delivered a glorious cross to Jake Robinson whose header struck the bar from point-blank range. The hosts went immediately up the other end and forced a good save from Roco Rees who parried wide.

Goalscorer Cashman was substituted just before the interval after he went down injured following a strong challenge, he was replaced by Finlay Chadwick.

Hinshelwood made two changes at the break, swapping Reuben Livesy Austin and Robinson for Danny Jordan and Jesse Starkey.

The Rebels saw plenty of the ball during the second half and nearly put it to good use early on when Meekums’ low effort from distance was tipped around the post.

Midway through the second half, Hinshelwood’s final changes were made as first, Pearce was replaced by Frankie Spitteri, before Meekums made way for Ellis Collier soon after.

Luer struck the bar late on, cutting inside onto his left foot before unleashing a curling effort.

A quiet second half in terms of chances, but a useful exercise for the Reds nonetheless. Attention now turns to the FA Cup this Saturday as Worthing make the trip to Priory Lane to take on Eastbourne Borough.
